Plastic Material:
There is a great variety of materials suitable for use in the field of thermoforming, resulting in diverse end products. Thermoforming uses thermoplastic material which changes form when heated. The most common polymers used in the field are the following: acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyethylene (PE), high impact polystyrene (HIPS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS).It is also common to use combinations of several polymers (ABS-PMMA, PS-PE) many of which are recyclable. Reusing recycled plastic is a current practice and is a significant economical consideration.
All of these
materials can be used alone, blended or multi-layered for uses including:
· Resistance to abrasion,
· Resistance to impact and wear,
· Ability to withstand extreme temperatures,
· Ability to withstand chemical products, oils and
gasoline,
· UV tolerant,
·Compliant with food standards,
·Compliant with safety standards (fire
regulations, electrical insulation),
· Anti-slip capacity,
· Sterile capacity,
· Rigidity or flexibility,
· Dimensional stability,
· Surface appearance: smooth, granulated, shiny,
matte, unpolished, frosted, mirror etc.
· Esthetic appearance: transparent, diffusing,
opaque, colored,
· Microbial barrier materials, (micro ban),etc
